Phosphatidylcholine increases the solubility of cholesterol, which decreases its ability to induce atherosclerosis. Phosphatidylcholine has also been shown to decrease cholesterol levels, remove cholesterol from tissue deposits and inhibit platelet aggregation according to recent studies. In a study, 32 patients with elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels were given a 70 percent phosphatidlycholine content lecithin 3x daily before meals. After 30 days of treatment, total cholesterol dropped an average of 33 percent, triglycerides dropped by 33 percent and HDL cholesterol levels increased by 46 percent.
